NASCAR: Nelson Piquet Jr. joins elite company with win in K&N East Pro Series

Pole winner Nelson Piquet Jr. became the latest foreign-born NASCAR winner by surviving Saturday afternoon’s K&N East Pro Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway. The Brazilian now sits among the small group that includes Sprint Cup winners Mario Andretti (Italy), Earl Ross (Canada) and Juan Pablo Montoya (Colombia), Cup and Nationwide winner Marcos Ambrose (Australia), Nationwide winner Ron Fellows (Canadian) and two K&N winners from Mexico.

The son of retired three-time Formula One champion Nelson Piquet led twice for 62 of the 127 laps at the high-banked, half-mile track. He led the final 27 laps and won by almost a half-second in an overtime two-lap sprint after officials briefly red-flagged the race with a handful of laps remaining for track cleanup.
