Drive for diversity: NASCAR’s push to develop minority drivers moving slowly

When African-American driver Darrell Wallace Jr. finished ninth in his Nationwide Series debut May 20 at Iowa Speedway, it was not only a significant moment for Wallace, but possibly for NASCAR’s Drive For Diversity program.

Wallace became the first driver from NASCAR’s diversity program to make a Nationwide start and appears to be the program’s best shot at developing a successful minority driver in one of NASCAR’s top three national series.
