Scott Lagasse Jr., a veteran driver from up the road in St. Augustine, called Thursday to say he’s got a new NASCAR Nationwide Series ride.

Lagasse, 30, has been absent from the Nationwide ranks since 2010, but he’s stayed busy building a foundation for this team, which he owns. He will carry the No. 8 TeamSLR Chevy into battle Saturday at Kentucky Motor Speedway.

“This is our own team, but we are getting transition help from Tommy Baldwin Racing,” he said on the phone. “We will run three races this year and at least 15 next season, but right now, it’s looking more than that.”
