Drivers who have not gotten off to the best of starts will look to the Sprint Cup race this Saturday at Richmond International Raceway as a place to rebound.
But they also will approach Richmond knowing that while they hope they can spark their season with a strong performance, it could be their performance Sept. 8 at the three-quarter-mile oval that will determine whether they make NASCAR’s version of the playoffs.
The top 10 drivers after that race (the 26th of the season) will automatically qualify for the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. The two drivers 11th-20th with the most wins (ties broken by points) will earn Chase wild-card spots.
