Ryan Truex knew he was doing something right last year when Joe Gibbs, owner of Joe Gibbs Racing, came up to him after a NASCAR Nationwide Series race in Phoenix.
Gibbs told the Stafford Township native how impressed he was, and how his team wanted to continue working with Truex in the future.
JGR got its wish with the announcement Tuesday that Grime Boss, a brand of heavy-duty hand wipes, will sponsor Truex in JGR cars for seven races this season.
“We’ve had a lot of young guys over the years come in the cars and race for us,” Gibbs’ son, team president J.D. Gibbs, said in a phone interview Tuesday. “What you see in Ryan is what you saw in Tony Stewart, what you saw in Denny Hamlin, what you saw in Joey Logano. They go right off the bat. You don’t have to spend a lot of time finessing it. They just know innately how to drive these cars. That’s hard to find.”
